Multiple Jurisdictions

MacLeod Reckord developed master plans, final design and construction documents, and managed construction for multiple segments of the Interurban Trail in the cities of Shoreline, Kent, Lynnwood, and Mountlake Terrace, and for South Snohomish county. While each trail segment is unique to their community, there are similarities in challenges of trail development in these still-active utility corridors. Seattle City Light and Snohomish County PUD continue to access the corridor for regular and emergency maintenance and repair, which requires trail design to accommodate line trucks and detour plans. WSDOT, UPRR and BNSF share, the corridor and each have requirements for clearance, access, surfacing, and barrier protection. All segments included improved crossings at challenging arterials, and most included trailhead development with interpretive features highlighting the corridor’s history. Several jurisdictions have used federal funding to develop these corridors, requiring LAG Manual documentation and full time construction services.
